TPSA'S NEW PRESIDENT HASN'T A CLUE
Eric Johnson Plays Starring Role In TPSA Puppet Show
In late 2008, TPSA members voted for (or should I say were forced to accept) new leadership. The
most recent elections were the most dismal ever in the history of the Texas Process Servers
Association formerly known as the North Texas Process Servers Association. Every single seat
was unopposed and filled by only one runner. The ballot wasn't a vote at all; it was more like an
informational newsletter announcing who would be what.
Winning (or should I say "appointed" to) the president's spot was Mr. Eric Johnson from the
Houston area. Mr. Johnson wasted little time filling the shoes of his predecessor, Mr. Carl Weeks.
In addition to filling his shoes, Mr. Johnson also continued the former regime's practice of filling
the heads of TPSA members with misinformation.
On September 5, 2008, a federal lawsuit was filed against the PSRB and the Texas Supreme Court
containing very serious allegations of fraud and constitutional violations. At the 2008 TPSA
conference, those TPSA members who are also members of the CCPSAT were led to believe that
their names had been used without their permission and that they were actual plaintiffs named in
the case. They were also led to believe that being a CCPSAT member placed them in danger of
being counter-sued by PSRB members for filing a frivolous lawsuit. It's reported that it was TPSA
leaders who perpetrated these malicious rumors in an attempt to force people out of a competing
association by employing scare tactics and misinformation.
At the regional TPSA meeting in Houston, Mr. Johnson told his members that it was their
responsibility to pay for funding the Process Server Review Board, chaired by his predecessor,
Carl Weeks. When a member asked Mr. Johnson why process servers were being forced to pay
for something none of them agreed to, Mr. Johnson told him it was their obligation. Another
member asked Mr. Johnson to allow discussion regarding the recently filed lawsuit against the
PSRB and the Texas Supreme Court. He completely ignored her and, instead, told members that
there would be no discussion. Members were none too happy.
I attended the Houston meeting, stayed after and told several people the truth. I told Mr. Johnson
about all the people who had called me after the TPSA conference and reported to me the lies
described above; he denied having any knowledge of it. I also attended the Austin TPSA meeting
where discussion of the lawsuit was also prohibited. In fact, a TPSA leader approached me before
the meeting and specifically told me to behave myself. What I don't understand is how the TPSA
leadership, especially Mr. Johnson, can openly announce that the TPSA as a whole is opposed to
the lawsuit and fully supports the PSRB and its actions. He speaks for each and every member.
But, when members want to discuss the issues, they are discouraged and told to sit down and shut
up. How can one man proclaim the position of his membership but deny their openly discussing it?
It seems keeping the sheep in line is priority one for the TPSA leadership.
Mr. Johnson is nothing more than the new leader of a puppet regime installed by the former
"board within the board" that has been swapping leadership seats for years. "A new face would
have been nice if it had come with a new attitude and a new direction." says one TPSA member.
"The TPSA has never been a member owned association. It has always been a private club run by
a handful of special interest, pro-licensing process servers who dupe hard working people into
donating money used to bankroll a hidden agenda."
Below are several letters I wrote to Mr. Eric Johnson. All have gone unanswered. I chose to
publish them for two reasons. One, he refuses to correct the lie in the letter he wrote to CCPSAT
members. Two, the letters explore several other important issues besides the fight over
licensing. But, make no mistake about it, WE HAVE ALL BEEN TRICKED AND LIED TO. Certification
never was about statewide authority. It was about a sneaky way to license and regulate our
industry behind our backs and the backs of our trusted legislators who have said NO to regulation
some 15 times. Certification has turned out to be nothing more than a stepping stone to the real
agenda of industry licensing. The statewide authority being certified provides is nothing more
than a carrot dangled in front of our noses to keep us moving forward and asking no questions.
DON'T BE FOOLED. Join the CCPSAT FOR FREE and join the real protectors of the industry. Get
involved, stand up, speak out, take control and don't give your money to anyone who won't give
you solid and convincing reasons for acting on your behalf. More importantly, don't trust those
who have lied to you in the past.
Sincerely,
Tod Pendergrass
